Urban explorer Jamie Marie recounted her most frightening experience during a visit to an eerie abandoned hospital. Having explored over 100 spooky locations, she declared the Mansfield Training School in Connecticut off-limits after a harrowing encounter there.
Initially established in 1860, the asylum was eventually closed in 1993 due to a history of misconduct and neglect, leading to its decay. Reputed to be haunted, the site’s dark passageways and tunnels have attracted ghost hunters over the years.
Jamie detailed her chilling venture at the asylum’s basement, which housed storage, an old electroshock room, and a crematorium. She described feeling a sudden drop in temperature along with a strange, indescribable sensation that compelled her to flee immediately.
The unnerving experience led Jamie to swear off exploring asylum basements, despite revisiting other parts of the campus. She confessed that while the ordeal didn’t deter her from urban exploration entirely, it did steer her clear of hospitals and asylums.
Residing in New England, Jamie’s fascination with the paranormal has driven her to explore various states, combining her childhood interests in stop-motion movies, puppets, and Halloween with her current hobby of exploring abandoned sites.
In a similar vein, another urban explorer named Ben reported a sighting of a ghostly figure in an abandoned school hallway. The school, deserted following the Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami disaster in Japan in 2011, remains frozen in time, with school bags, homework, and awards still in place.
Reflecting on his experience, Ben shared his surprise at discovering a mysterious figure in his photographs, resembling a spirit. Despite his lack of prior supernatural encounters, he felt unsettled by the sighting, noting the Japanese belief that spirits remain in their designated spaces.
