The upcoming Labour Deputy Leadership competition holds significant importance not only for the party’s future but also for the nation. Addressing Labour members, my goal is clear: I aim to unify our party to drive change, ensuring our ability to outperform Reform in the upcoming election and secure a second term for Labour.
Seeking the mandate of our members, I aspire to bring more hope, increased opportunities for the youth, and advocate for progressive policies that enhance life prospects for all. My personal journey, starting from a challenging neighborhood to serving in the Cabinet, exemplifies the positive impact of Labour governments in empowering individuals to shape their destinies.
Labour administrations have a proven track record of uplifting children from poverty, a cause that propelled me into politics. In our initial year in power, I have diligently worked towards enhancing the life prospects of our children.
Implementing initiatives like free breakfast clubs, rejuvenating Sure Start for a new generation through Best Start Family Hubs, establishing school-based nurseries, expanding Free School Meals coverage, and reforming state education by eliminating tax privileges of private schools, are just the beginning. I seek further support to make Labour members proud of our party, eager to campaign, engage with communities, and highlight the positive impact of a Labour government.
Achieving victory necessitates unity across all regions, towns, and cities. Divided parties do not succeed in elections, and we cannot afford to give Reform an edge with upcoming elections in Scotland, Wales, and local polls. I commit to continuing Angela Rayner’s advocacy as the Deputy Leader, focusing on re-electing Labour representatives and amplifying members’ voices in the decision-making process.
Avoiding past divisions within the party, we must offer hope for the future rather than fostering grievances. Our success in the previous General Election stemmed from presenting a united front with a fresh vision for the country’s future. To prevent prolonged disunity that led to years in opposition, we must unite around common values, goals, and triumph over adversaries, staying true to the vision of a progressive nation.
The time has come to unite, win, and bring about positive change for Britain.
