“1,711-Pound Pumpkin Disqualified at Port Elgin Festival”

A large pumpkin grown by Jeff Warner weighing 1,711 pounds at the Port Elgin Pumpkinfest was disqualified due to a small soft spot on the vegetable. Despite knowing the strict competition rules regarding entry conditions, Warner decided to participate in the event with the hope of winning. However, upon inspection, judges deemed the soft spot on the pumpkin too large, disqualifying it from the heaviest pumpkin contest. Warner attempted to mitigate the issue by scraping the soft spot, but it continued to expand during his journey to the festival. Ultimately, the pumpkin was deemed ineligible for the competition due to the size of the soft spot, which exceeded the allowable limit of three inches. The winning pumpkin weighed 1,542 pounds, nearly 170 pounds lighter than Warner’s giant pumpkin. Warner expressed disappointment but acknowledged the importance of adhering to the competition rules. Despite not winning, Warner’s massive pumpkin has attracted attention from visitors, who have been stopping by to admire and take photos with it. Warner plans to transport the pumpkin to a polar habitat to feed it to polar bears as a secondary use after the competition.
