The federal government in Ottawa is introducing a new organization called Digital Transformation Canada, aimed at enhancing Canadians’ access to government services through digital technologies. Appointed as the CEO of this initiative is Patrick Pichette, who brings extensive expertise in digital transformation and innovation from his previous roles at Google, Bell Canada, McKinsey, and Spring Canada.
Prime Minister Mark Carney highlighted that Digital Transformation Canada will focus on implementing digital solutions, including artificial intelligence, across government operations to streamline processes, reduce costs, and bolster digital security. The agency’s objectives also include modernizing service delivery, supporting Canadian technology firms, and positioning Canada as a leader in the digital era.
Furthermore, the agency will empower public servants with tools to enhance service efficiency and provide financial support to Canadian AI and digital companies for testing, scaling, and commercializing new technologies. This new organization will operate under Minister Joël Lightbound’s oversight, merging parts of Shared Services Canada with components of the Treasury Board Secretariat, Public Services and Procurement Canada, and Employment and Social Development Canada.
