“Blue Jays Acquire Catcher Shawn Ross from Mets”

The Toronto Blue Jays have acquired catcher Shawn Ross through waivers from the New York Mets. Following the transaction, Ross has been sent down to triple-A Buffalo for further development.

At 26 years old, Ross entered the Major League Baseball scene earlier this year with the Pittsburgh Pirates, participating in two MLB games before being picked up by the Mets. Throughout this season, he has showcased his skills in 70 games at the triple-A and double-A levels, maintaining a batting average of .184. Noteworthy stats include 13 doubles, 11 home runs, 29 RBI, and successfully throwing out 14 runners from behind the plate.

Ross began his professional baseball journey as an undrafted free agent signed by the Pirates in 2022 after playing at Clarendon Junior College. With a total of 285 minor-league games split between the Pirates and Mets organizations, Ross has accumulated a .189 batting average, along with 39 doubles, 53 home runs, and 148 RBI over four seasons.
