Outkast Sues Rapper Ovrkast for Trademark Infringement

Outkast members Big Boi and AndrĂ© 3000 have taken legal action against Ovrkast, a rapper and music producer based in Oakland, for alleged trademark infringement, unfair competition, and breach of contract due to similarities in their names. The lawsuit, filed in Georgia by High Schoolers LLC, the entity managing Outkast’s trademarks, claims that Ovrkast, also known as Silas Wilson, deliberately used a name closely resembling Outkast without permission, despite an agreement to cease doing so.

Citing Outkast’s significant influence and valuable brand in southern hip-hop, the complaint highlights a failed attempt to resolve the matter amicably. Outkast referenced a Rolling Stone interview from 2025 where Wilson discussed confusion between Ovrkast and Outkast as evidence of misleading fans.

Wilson, known for collaborations with artists like Earl Sweatshirt and Drake, responded to the lawsuit on Instagram, expressing surprise and disappointment. The legal dispute arose after Outkast reportedly sent a cease and desist letter to Ovrkast in June 2025, followed by a settlement agreement where Ovrkast was supposed to transition to the name Overkxst by a specified deadline.

However, the lawsuit alleges that Wilson delayed complying with the agreement, requested name changes, and eventually cut off communication. Outkast claims Wilson’s actions demonstrate intentional misuse of the Ovrkast name to benefit from Outkast’s reputation. The lawsuit seeks to prohibit Wilson from using the Ovrkast name, cover legal expenses, and surrender profits gained from the alleged infringement.

Outkast further demands the destruction of all merchandise bearing the Ovrkast brand. Despite attempts to reach Wilson for comment on the lawsuit, no response has been received.
