Canada’s Sophia Jensen secured her first-ever world championship title at the 2026 ICF Canoe Sprint & Paracanoe World Championships held in Poznań, Poland. The 24-year-old athlete hailing from Chelsea, Quebec, clinched the gold medal in the women’s C1 500-meter final with a time of 2:00.78. Agnes Anna Kiss from Hungary claimed silver in 2:02.80, while Belarusian Alena Nazdrova took home the bronze in 2:04.80.
In another remarkable achievement for Canada, Brianna Hennessy from Ottawa earned a bronze medal in the KL1 women’s 200m final, finishing with a time of 54.20 seconds. The gold medal in this event was secured by Chilean Paralympic champion Katherinne Wollermann in 52.23 seconds, followed by China’s Maosan Xie who won silver with a time of 53.92 seconds.
