After Matthew Perry’s passing in 2023, fans of his iconic character Chandler Bing from the popular series “Friends” were surprised by revelations of his ketamine addiction. To provide a more comprehensive view of the actor’s life, Netflix is set to release a three-part documentary series called “The One About Matthew Perry.”
The docuseries will delve into Perry’s journey from his early days as a comedic talent to his well-known role on “Friends.” It will feature never-before-heard accounts from those closest to him, including his sister Mia Perry Bowick, who is a grief specialist and has openly discussed her grieving process following his death.
Mia Perry Bowick expressed, “It’s taken time for me to feel ready to share these memories and what it was like to love Matthew through all the complexity of his life — to see him as a whole person, not just as Chandler, and not just as someone who struggled with addiction.”
Tragically, Perry was discovered deceased in his backyard hot tub at 54 due to a ketamine overdose. Several individuals have pleaded guilty to offenses related to providing him with the drug. Dr. Salvador Plasencia, one of the individuals who sold Perry ketamine, is currently appealing his 30-month prison sentence.
The upcoming docuseries on Netflix aims to offer a deeper understanding of Perry beyond his public persona, shedding light on his private struggles and his commitment to honesty and advocacy. The series is scheduled to premiere on October 27.
