A village in southern France, Pomas, was hit by an unusually strong tornado causing extensive damage to over 300 homes and leaving dozens injured. Fortunately, no missing individuals have been reported so far. The Aude prefecture confirmed that as of Tuesday morning, 1,400 households were still without electricity due to the storm.
The tornado was captured swirling above the nearby village of Verzeille, located east of Pomas, in footage shared on social media and verified by Reuters. Many houses along its path had their windows shattered by the powerful winds.
Residents are now assessing the aftermath and beginning the cleanup process. Images show a man standing among the wreckage of a damaged house in Pomas, debris scattered inside the Saint Julien et Sainte Basilisse church after its roof collapsed, fallen trees in a cemetery, and workers covering a damaged building’s roof with a tarp.
