“Fredericton Woman Sets Stroller Running World Record”

A woman from Fredericton successfully achieved a Guinness World Record for running with a stroller, which was officially confirmed this week. Julia Reid set the record on Feb. 28, 2026, at the Gagetown Fitness Centre in Oromocto, completing the fastest one-kilometer push with a single pram for a female.

After finishing the race and hearing her coach announce her time of three minutes and 17 seconds, Reid had to wait for months for the official ratification. She had to provide photos, evidence, videos, and collect documents from witnesses and timekeepers to ensure the accuracy of her attempt.

Reid, a 32-year-old mother from Fredericton, had been involved in competitive running for three years before pursuing the record. She included speed training in her preparation and often went on runs with her daughter, Winnie, who was in the stroller during the record-breaking run. Winnie, who was 17 months old and weighed 30 pounds at the time, was carried in a Thule Urban Glide 2 stroller weighing 25.5 pounds.

On Aug. 17, coincidentally her mother’s birthday, Reid received the official confirmation from Guinness World Records via email, bringing her to tears with relief and joy. She was initially expecting a 12-week wait but learned from another record-breaking runner from Prince Edward Island that the process could take up to six months.

Reid expressed gratitude for the support she received from the running community, even from clubs she was not a part of, who shared her achievements and cheered her on. While acknowledging that her record could be challenged by others, she remains proud of her accomplishment and welcomes the idea of inspiring other mothers to pursue similar goals in the future.

The most meaningful aspect of the record for Reid was sharing the experience with Winnie, whom she enjoyed running with during maternity leave and working towards a common goal. She hopes that Winnie will cherish the memory as much as she does in the future.
