Elderly American Woman Killed in Trans-Canada Highway Collision

An elderly woman, aged 80, lost her life in a collision involving two vehicles on the Trans-Canada Highway close to Flat Bay in western Newfoundland, as confirmed by authorities. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police arrived at the scene of the accident at approximately 12:30 p.m. NT the following day, resulting in the closure of both lanes of the T.C.H. near the Flat Bay Junction for approximately seven hours. The woman, identified as an American by the police, was pronounced dead at the crash site. A 79-year-old man who was also in the vehicle with her sustained severe injuries and was transported to the hospital in Corner Brook.

The driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash was likewise hospitalized, with reported minor injuries. Updates on the conditions of the hospitalized individuals were not provided in the latest statement released on Friday, with no plans to disclose further details publicly. Authorities are actively investigating the circumstances that led to the collision, with the involvement of the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in the inquiry.
