After the discovery of structural cracks at an elementary school in Quebec City, over 300 students and teachers are being moved to a different school just before the academic year begins. Inspections at Saint-Fidèle elementary school identified cracks in the beams and pillars of the building, as communicated in an email to parents by the Quebec City school service center. While experts have confirmed that there is no immediate safety risk to those inside, the necessary repairs are significant, requiring a major construction project.
To ensure the safety of the occupants, the school service center has arranged for the relocation of the students and staff to another building owned by the service, situated 250 meters away. A total of 345 individuals will be affected by this move. An online meeting for parents has been scheduled for August 20th to provide further information and address any concerns.
