Four individuals implicated in a probe involving the manufacturing of explosives and firearms in London, Ontario, are now facing 19 additional charges, as per court records filed on Tuesday. Jerry Tong, Zekun (Alex) Wang, Fei (Frank) Han, and Feiyang (Astrid) Ji were initially charged in January. They were all either students or recent graduates of Western University, with the three male suspects having backgrounds in the engineering department. The updated charges, presented to the Ontario Court of Justice, now amount to a total of 31 separate counts. Some charges are collective against all four individuals, while others are specific to each accused.
The new charges encompass the possession of five distinct explosive substances, possession of stolen property, and unauthorized access to computer data related to firearm production. The investigation, which originated on January 24 following an incident at Western University where two men intruded into an engineering building, led to the arrests of the suspects. Subsequent investigations led law enforcement to a residence in the University Heights neighborhood where the three other individuals were apprehended.
Law enforcement executed a thorough search at the residence on 212 Chesham Place, where Wang, Han, and Ji resided, along with two additional locations in Orléans, Ottawa, and Gatineau, Quebec. Initially facing firearms charges upon their arrest, the new charges against Tong, Wang, and Ji include possession of gun accessories, another prohibited firearm, and mishandling and careless storage of a rifle. Tong also faces charges related to incidents in other cities, including storing rifles in Orleans, manufacturing a prohibited firearm in Ottawa, and possessing a rifle at an unauthorized location in Quebec.
Additionally, Wang is accused of manufacturing a weapon between September 1, 2025, and January 24, 2026, while both Wang and Tong are charged with a break-in at a Western building on October 9, 2025. The suspects are also implicated in possessing various explosive substances, including pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN), trinitrotoluene (TNT), dinitrophenol (DNP), hexamethylene triperoxide diamine (HMTD), and lead azide.
Moreover, there are new charges for possessing property belonging to Western University valued at less than $5,000. Wang faces an additional charge for accessing computer data associated with firearm production. The accused individuals face varying counts, with Tong facing 28 charges, Wang facing 20, Han facing 11, and Ji facing 13. As the legal proceedings continue, two of the accused are out on bail while the other two remain in custody. Tong did not seek bail and is currently detained, while Han was denied bail and remanded in custody. Wang was granted bail with stringent conditions in March, and Ji is also out on bail without any sureties.
