Canadian swimmer Summer McIntosh is setting her sights on the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, aiming for five individual gold medals. The Pan Pacific swimming championships happening this week will serve as a crucial benchmark for her Olympic aspirations. Arriving in California for the competition, McIntosh expressed her excitement for the upcoming Games, emphasizing the significance of being in the state where the Olympics will take place.
Having clinched three gold medals at the Paris Olympics, McIntosh has emerged as a standout figure in swimming, boasting four individual long-course world records. Notably, she shattered the women’s 200m butterfly world record at the Canadian trials in Montreal in July, marking a remarkable achievement in her career.
Following her record-breaking performance, McIntosh faced setbacks due to illness, forcing her to withdraw from the trials. However, she has since recovered and is fully prepared to compete at the Pan Pacific championships. Under the guidance of renowned coach Bob Bowman, McIntosh is eager to showcase her skills in events such as the 200m freestyle, 200m individual medley, and 400m freestyle.
This competition marks McIntosh’s debut at the Pan Pacs, a significant event that was canceled in 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With high expectations and a rigorous training regimen, McIntosh is poised to deliver exceptional performances at the championships. As she looks ahead to the upcoming races, McIntosh remains optimistic about her prospects and is determined to make a lasting impression in the pool.
