Canada’s national police force announced on Monday the apprehension of a 51-year-old individual for purportedly issuing death threats against Prime Minister Mark Carney. The arrested individual, Marc-André Porlier from Montreal, faces charges of making threats to cause harm, as indicated in an RCMP press release. The threats were conveyed through an email to various undisclosed recipients, including a senator, as mentioned by law enforcement in the press release. The accused also purportedly menaced “all Canadian police officers,” as per the official accusation.
Authorities confirmed that Porlier had previously been convicted of arson and vandalism for setting ablaze a church in Toronto in 2017. The RCMP spokesperson noted that he was serving probation for those offenses. Porlier was brought before the court on Saturday, according to the press release, emphasizing that the charges against him remain unproven in court.
