Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have seemingly withdrawn from a significant initiative they launched earlier. The couple introduced the Archewell Foundation Parents Network during the summer of 2024 to assist individuals affected by online harm after losing a child, emphasizing the risks associated with social media.
Recent developments indicate that the network has been handed over from Archewell to ParentsTogether, a distinct organization providing support to parents concerned about the online world’s impact on children. Archewell has reportedly transferred full operational control of the Parents Network to ParentsTogether, along with a financial grant to support the initial year of core operations.
In October, Harry and Meghan’s Network disclosed a collaboration with ParentsTogether at an event in New York commemorating World Mental Health Day. Harry expressed, “Expanding the parents’ movement and providing ongoing support is key to driving real change. We are thrilled to announce tonight the union of The Parents’ Network with ParentsTogether.”
A source within Archewell conveyed to the Mirror, “This aligns with our established approach of incubating initiatives before transitioning them to autonomous, sustainable organizations, similar to Invictus and Travalyst. ParentsTogether has cultivated trusted relationships with numerous families over time, making them the ideal permanent custodian for The Parents Network. We are delighted to witness these families receive support and advocacy in such capable hands.”
Harry and Meghan initially launched the Parents Network in 2024, marking the event with a rare television interview with CBS News. Harry remarked, “At this juncture, nearly every parent must act as a first responder. Even the most proficient first responders may not recognize the signs of potential suicide.”
Last year, they voiced concerns about social media to the BBC, with Harry emphasizing the need for change to prevent further tragedies related to social media use. Meghan added, “Through these parents, we witness hope and the aspiration for a better future, aiming to prevent similar incidents from occurring.”
Despite stepping back from the Parents Network, the couple remains deeply invested in raising awareness about the impact of social media on youth. Recently, they expressed their pride in contributing to efforts addressing the consequences and hazards of social media for children.
In a video for Oprah Daily, Harry and Meghan engaged in a conversation with Jonathan Haidt and Catherine Price, authors of The Amazing Generation: Your Guide To Fun And Freedom In A Screen-Filled World, discussing their research findings.
Harry stated, “We have collaborated over the years on how the digital landscape profoundly affects our collective mental, emotional, and physical well-being.” Meghan added, “We are proud to be part of this parent-led movement that has emerged from your research, which is remarkable and essential.”
The couple also shared their experiences implementing some of Haidt and Price’s suggestions at home with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, emphasizing the importance of genuine laughter over digital interactions.
