Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao are set to make boxing history with a highly anticipated rematch at The Las Vegas Sphere in September. The first-ever professional boxing bout at this venue will see two of the sport’s legendary figures facing off once again.
The initial encounter between Mayweather and Pacquiao, known as the ‘Fight of the Century,’ took place in 2015, with Mayweather emerging as the victor. Despite both fighters retiring from their illustrious careers, they are now gearing up for a rematch that promises to be a monumental event.
Netflix has confirmed that Mayweather Pacquiao II is scheduled for September 19 at The Las Vegas Sphere, marking another significant deal for the streaming platform following its broadcasting of Anthony Joshua’s bout against Jake Paul in December.
The upcoming rematch is expected to be a financial juggernaut, building on the massive success of their previous fight, which garnered £4.6 million in pay-per-view purchases and a record gate of $72.2 million (£53.5 million).
Mayweather reportedly earned $250 million (£185.3 million) from the initial fight, while Pacquiao took home $150 million (£111.2 million). Mayweather’s unbeaten record of 50-0 will be on the line in the rematch, set to be a sanctioned professional contest.
In response to the rematch announcement, Pacquiao expressed his excitement, stating that fans have long awaited this momentous event. He aims to hand Mayweather his first professional defeat and dedicate the fight to his global fan base and the Philippines.
Mayweather, confident in his abilities, reiterated his past victory over Pacquiao and forecasted a similar outcome in the upcoming bout. Both fighters are expected to have warm-up matches before facing each other again, with Pacquiao scheduled to meet Ruslan Provodnikov and Mayweather likely to fight Mike Tyson.
The highly anticipated rematch will headline The Sphere, marking the first boxing event at the venue and only the second sports event following UFC 306 in September 2024.
