A construction firm, Caldwell Construction Limited, has gone into administration, jeopardizing over 400 jobs. The company, established in 2007, has enlisted administrators from PKF Littlejohn Advisory, operating from offices in Stoke-on-Trent and Warrington, Cheshire.
Paul Smith, a Partner at PKF Littlejohn Advisory UK LLP, mentioned the challenging environment in the construction sector with rising costs, project delays, and market uncertainties. Despite a turnover of £58.4 million last year, Caldwell experienced operating profit below £1 million. Smith noted that recent weeks had intensified financial strain on the company.
Efforts to explore alternative solutions failed, leading to the decision to place Caldwell into administration. The focus now shifts to supporting employees and stakeholders while evaluating the business’s status and assets.
Separately, Consumer Energy Solutions, an energy provider in south Wales, also collapsed into administration, impacting nearly 300 employees. The company announced immediate cessation of trading, affecting sites in Swansea and Rhondda Cynon Taf. Employees expressed distress after learning about their job risks close to the Christmas holiday.
The situation at Consumer Energy Solutions was attributed to the conclusion of the UK Government-backed Energy Company Obligation 4 scheme. The scheme, aiding homeowners in energy upgrades, is set to conclude this year.
Administrators from KR8 Advisory Limited took over Consumer Energy Solutions, clarifying that the company’s administration does not involve other entities within the City Energy Group.
