Coronation Street’s Megan, played by actress Beth Nixon, recently shared her journey to landing the role, revealing that she was close to portraying a different character on the show. Beth joined the ITV soap last year as the coach of young Will Driscoll, who relocated to Weatherfield with his family from Hull.
Will’s family, including his father Ben, grandmother Maggie, and Ben’s girlfriend Eva Price, have settled in the area. However, it was unveiled that Megan has been grooming 16-year-old Will for months without his family’s knowledge.
Megan has now taken up a position at Weatherfield High School and has become romantically involved with another teacher, Daniel Osbourne, much to Will’s dismay.
During a recent episode, Daniel invited Megan to join him in decorating his son Bertie’s house for his upcoming birthday, marking a new development in their relationship.
Although Megan’s character has sparked controversy among viewers, Beth Nixon shared in an interview that she had previously auditioned for different roles on the show. Beth mentioned being thrilled when she found out she secured the role of Megan, especially after facing challenges in her acting career prior to this opportunity.
She disclosed that the casting team had observed her performances in various shows at the Arden School of Theatre in Manchester, where she was already familiar to them. Despite auditioning for Corrie twice before, Beth finally landed the role of Megan, a complex character she embraced despite its challenging nature.
Beth’s perseverance paid off when she received the news of her casting while at work, leading to an emotional reaction as she realized this opportunity came at a crucial point in her career.
